FINA published the criteria for classification of male and female water polo for the Olympic Games 2012 - London. The classification criteria are;

1 - CHAMPION 2011 World League

2 - The first 3 finishers in the Shanghai World

3 - Tournament CHAMPION CONTINENTAL (5 countries)

4 - 3 / 1 PRE-OLYMPIC-ranked

Note: If Britain will compete in water polo as the host country, comes in as Europe's representative.
