At the latitude of McMurdo sun was never ends: it remains above the horizon for all 24 hours.
The two pictures depict the light present at 24 of November 12. Obviously the sun is not easy to photograph: it is located just behind the sign for the New Zealand Scott base.
Why, despite being so long enlightened in the months from September to March, the ice is affected so little? Easy 85% of solar radiation is reflected from the white surface, such as a tropical forest while it reflects only about 12%.
Also the sun at this latitude is not very high above the horizon so many solar rays pass through the atmosphere, illuminating, but not reach the ground to heat: a question of inclination.
icy waves.
